Collection: Mise en Place

Mise en Place - A French term meaning everything in its place. This is a best practice among bakers and cooks. It is often skipped by armatures, but you really shouldn't skip it. It saves time once you start and prevents delays and mistakes in the midst of baking and cooking.

For mise en place you need many bowls of different sizes and you need some trays. The idea is to have all ingredients measured, prepared and ready for use so you can just grab it when you need it.

Put all ingredients for a recipe together on one tray. Its easier to work this way. I find this especially important with more complex recipes that have different parts, or even recipes within the recipe. Macarons, Tiramisu, and Entremets are examples.  Even with a cake, I will have dry ingredients on one tray , wet on another, and frosting on another.

You will see a lot of different types of bowls here. That is just because I wanted to give you variety to choose from.  I also keep separate mise bowls from other bowls so that when I need them for baking they are no in use elsewhere. I just find it more organized.

While there are many to choose from this is what I prefer: 1 set of stainless steel mixing bowls and one set of glass bowls. See below.
